⇒ U.S. stocks rebounded, trimming the worst January loss in four years, as earnings beat estimates at companies from Facebook Inc. to PulteGroup Inc. and consumer spending picked up. The Standard and Poor’s 500 Index gained 0.4 percent to 1,781.3 at 9:30 a.m. in New York, rising from a two-month low. The equity benchmark lost 1 percent yesterday as the Federal Reserve decided to reduce its monthly bond purchases by $10 billion. The SandP 500 was down 4 percent for the month at todays open. The Dow Jones Industrial Average added 68.72 points, or 0.4 percent, to 15,807.51 today – Source: Bloomberg

⇒ NASDAQ ended modestly higher on Friday, led by gains in defensive names after a weaker-than-expected payrolls report raised new questions about both the strength of the economy and the aggressiveness of Federal Reserve stimulus. ⇒ U.S. stocks closed lower on Monday, with the SandP 500 index falling for a third consecutive session after weaker-than-expected services-sector data. ⇒ U.S. stocks ended a choppy trading session mostly lower on Friday after Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke defended the extraordinary measures undertaken by the central bank to boost the economic recovery. The SandP 500 slipped less than a point to end at 1,831.37, leaving it down 0.5% for the week. The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed up 28.64 points, or 0.2%, at 16,469.99, but finished the week marginally lower. The tech-heavy NASDAQ Composite shed 11.16 points, or 0.3%, to 4,131.91 on Friday and lost 0.6% for the week. ⇒ U.S. stock indexes closed slightly lower on Friday, but recorded solid weekly gains. The Dow Jones Industrial Average broke its six-day winning streak, closing 1.47 points lower at 16,478.41. ⇒ U.S. stocks rallied Friday, lifting the Dow Jones Industrial Average and the SandP 500 to record levels, after a government report showed the economy grew at its fastest pace in two years last quarter. The Dow rose 42.06 points, or 0.3%, to 16,221.14 and gained 3% over the week. That was its best week since September 13. The SandP 500 index ended the session off its intraday highs but still at a record closing level. The benchmark closed 8.72 points, or 0.5%, higher at 1,818.32 and recorded a 2.4% weekly gain after two straight weeks of losses. ⇒ U.S. stocks on Thursday recovered earlier losses as investors shrugged off disappointing housing, manufacturing and employment report.
